History of Grama Panchayat
Puramattom village is naturally bordered by the Manimala River to the north, Iraviperur, the historic settlement of Iravi, to the west, Koyippuram, once known as Kovilpuram, and the legendary Ezhumattoor to the south and east, standing like a natural fortress around the village. This village, which possesses a rich historical heritage, has several legends regarding the origin of its name. According to local tradition, the name evolved from the Malayalam expression "Purakile Muttam" (the backyard), which later became "Puramuttam", and over the course of time was transformed into "Puramattom."
